Orthopaedic surgery is the surgical treatment of diseases and injuries affecting the musculo-skeletal system (the system that enables physically movement using the muscles and skeleton). The aim of orthopaedic surgery, therefore, is to restore lost function in any part of the musculo-skeletal system to allow the patient to return to their former way of life. Among the list of specialities (see below), common procedures involve knee surgery and surgery to treat severe back pain.
