Hand and Wrist Clinic

The London Hand and Wrist Unit has brought together world class surgeons and therapists who practice at four of the Capital's leading private hospitals, The Wellington, The London Bridge, The Lister and the Portland hospitals. The London Hand & Wrist Unit is recognised internationally as providing expertise and high quality care for all patients with conditions affecting the upper limb.

The London Hand and Wrist Unit specialises in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of all conditions relating to the hand and wrist. The Unit includes the most distinguished multi-disciplinary team members from four specialities. Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgeons, with specific hand and wrist training, provide the medical and surgical care together with specialised occupational therapists (OTs) and senior physiotherapists (PTs) providing the rehabilitation services. To ensure the highest quality of care, only specialised and experienced staff will be involved in patient treatment.

The conditions managed by our highly experienced staff include but is not limited to:

  • Trauma to tendons, nerves and other soft tissues
  • Fractures and joint injuries
  • Dupuytren's disease
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other peripheral nerve problems
  • Tenosynovitis and tendonitis
  • Ganglions and tumours
  • Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • Congenital anomalies
  • Burns and hypertrophic & keloid scars
  • Sports injuries
  • Work and leisure related conditions

Treatment modalities for the above conditions incorporate specialised techniques from both Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapist disciplines and include:

  • Thermoplastic static and dynamic splints
  • Neoprene custom made splints
  • Oedema and wound management
  • Exercise therapy and mobilisation techniques
  • Activities of daily living
  • Work and leisure rehabilitation using Primus RS
  • Electrotherapy
  • Scar management including pressure garments
  • Joint protection and energy conservation for arthritis
  • Rehabilitation workshops
  • Medico-legal assessment
