Consultant Rheumatologist

Professor Simon Bowman qualified in Medicine at University College London Hospitals. After finishing his PhD at Guy’s Hospital he completed his rheumatology training in Oxford. He has been a Consultant Rheumatologist for over 15 years at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

Professor Bowman has broad experience of all aspects of rheumatology including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis and soft-tissue rheumatic disorders and joint injection therapy. Professor Bowman has a particular clinical and research interest in Sjögren’s syndrome and related connective tissue disorders such as scleroderma, lupus and mixed connective tissue disease.

He holds an Honorary Chair at the University of Birmingham and has published widely on the topic of Sjögren’s syndrome and other connective tissue disorders. 

Professor Bowman is also interested in postgraduate rheumatology education and has been Chair of the Education and Training Committee and a Trustee of the British Society for Rheumatology and Lead Clinician for the Royal College of Physicians Specialty Certificate Examination in Rheumatology.

Special interests

Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis and soft-tissue rheumatic disorders and joint injection therapy. Sjögren’s syndrome and related connective tissue disorders such as scleroderma, lupus and mixed connective tissue disease.
